This Wednesday is Earth Day so every day this week I will be giving a few environmental tips for you. :-) There are many things you can do to help the environment. Something as simple as reusing your water bottle instead of opening a new one each time you’re thirsty can reduce your waste. Imagine if you also recycled that water bottle!

Monday, Be Water Wise!!

Even though the Earth is mostly water, only 3% of it is fresh water and even less than that is suitable for drinking. Our water reserves are being depleted more and more each day.

Saving water is as easy as turning off a faucet. Here are a few simple things you can do at home:

  1. Don’t keep the water running while you’re brushing your teeth.  You can save 3 gallans per day!
  2. Take shorter showers. Shortening your showers by one or two minutes can save 5 gallans per day!
  3. Help your mom or dad fix the dripping faucet. A leaky faucet can waste 20 gallons of water per day!
  4. Help your dad install a water-saving shower head. In addition to the water it saves, it also saves the fuel that would have been used to heat up the extra hot water. And that reduces pollution.
  5. Wash only full loads of laundry. You don’t have to do laundry as often and you can save 15-50 gallans per load!
  6. Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks. You can save 150 gallans each time!

Not only do I leave the faucet on when I brush my teeth, I actually turn the shower on just for the soothing sounds it makes.
